A tribute to my childhood game, Final Fantasy IX!
One of the most memorable scene for me was at the end of Disc 1, where the party got wiped out by Beatrix while pursuing Brahne. With the possibility of a remake announced soon, I just couldn't past the chance of me contributing to the hype.
You can follow the progress over the past 5 weeks in my blog. Disclaimer, I'm not a character artist, so I did not model the characters from scratch, I found some base models online (https://www.models-resource.com/pc_computer/finalfantasyix/), modified and upres-ed them in zbrush, rebuild the materials, etc. Animation was done using Mixamo.
But I did model all the environment assets from scratch. With most of the fractured pieces done in engine. The idea is to create a cinematic that mimics the style of Arcane, as I believe that fits the storybook look of the original game more than a photoreal remake version of it. It's also a great exercise to create a procedural material based painterly look that doesn't rely too much on manual painting.
Special thanks to Rudy Siswanto, Denny Ertanto, Rini Sugianto and Sam Santillo for giving me feedbacks throughout my progress.
I do not own any copyright material of this IP, this is just a tribute that I created as a huge fan of the series.
